Author LaToya Johnson

I been writing books since I knew how to read. At a young
age I started folding papers in half and creating short stories on them. In
fifth grade, It was finally my time to shine when my teacher asked for me to read
my book to the class. ‘Jaleel’s Imagination”. I remember it as if it was
yesterday. I had the whole class attention; this encouraged me to keep going.

In 1994 I wrote my first novel on notebook paper. Filled the
entire 1 subject notepad.  That novel was
called “Kia’s Back” It was about a young teenage girl who was gunned down by
some kids on the street. She came back from the dead and haunted them all. I
wish the world could’ve read that book. That year when we moved from Utica, New
York to Fremont, Ohio, I lost all my material. The worse year of my life. Writing
is everything to me. No matter what it’s about. I get to create something that
came from myself. I stopped writing for a long time. Then I met my husband when
I was nineteen. I told him about my passion, and he encouraged me to keep
going. When I wrote again and he read the first book I finished, called “Shantel.”
(which is Murder was the case) He loved it and helped me publish my first book.

From that moment on, I began to take my writing more
seriously. I started carrying a notebook everywhere I went, scribbling ideas, writing
everywhere I went and everything that came to mind. Writing became my escape,
my sanctuary, and nothing ever stopped me from getting to a higher place.
